FROM 'THE MASTER ARTISAN' PK'S CORNER PRESENTS, HEALTHY SHINY WINTER HAIR

From PK's Corner........................

The key to creating any gorgeous hairstyle is to start with healthy, shiny hair.  Paul Kenneth shares his best beauty tips on how to score healthy hair even after months of winter abuse.

Step 1: Lather Up Gently
Basic winter hair care starts with a gentle shampoo that won't strip hair of moisture. Try to shampoo less than 3 times a week and use a dry shampoo in between washings. If you simply can't part with a favorite shampoo or daily wash, blend two parts shampoo with one part conditioner for added moisture. If you're ready for something new, try a conditioning treatment that has Aragon oil like PK Moroccan Treatment.
Step 2: Sleep On It
Put the beauty back into beauty sleep by using an overnight hair treatment. Place a PK Spa MD Hair mask from the mid shaft of wet or dry hair down to protect against moisture loss during the night. Repeat this process as often as like since there is no such thing as over-conditioning hair.
Step 3: Give Your Scalp Some TLC
Just like the skin on your face and body, your scalp gets drier in the winter. If it seems tight and flaky, treat it to a massage. Knead your head for two minutes every evening to boost healthy blood circulation and slough off dead skin cells.
Step 4: Feed Your Hair
You are what you eat. Consuming foods rich in essential fatty acids can do wonders for making your hair look shiny and thick. I suggest adding more avocados, walnuts, and almonds to your daily diet during the winter. Here's a great avocado hair mask recipe--it's so natural, you can even drink it! In a blender, combine one very ripe avocado with one tablespoon each of olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar. Blend until the texture is creamy, then massage onto damp hair and put on a shower cap. Step into a hot shower to steam your hair for ten minutes before rinsing. The apple cider vinegar really adds to hair shine!

FROM 'THE MASTER ARTISAN' PK'S CORNER PRESENTS, EASY-TO-DO WINTER HAIRSTYLES

From PK's Corner........................
Here is another easy-to-do hairstyle to keep your hair looking stylish, during those challenging blustery winter winds and snow gusts. Hats are a must during winter weather and hair has to look good both when the hat in on and especially when it comes off.  Wearing winter hats, no matter how fashionable, can make the hairstyle underneath less than perfect.  This PK easy-to-do hair style you can sport the latest hat trend and to keep your hairstyle looking good all while staying warm and fashionable this winter.

Wind Proof Bun or Braid - Great for the Fedora, Beret and Newsboy Cap Wearing a ballerina-esque bun at the nape is perfect combination with this tomboyish type Newsboy cap look or with a Fedora or Beret.  Both caps are supposed to be worn mid to low on the forehead and this tends to cover most of the entire forehead.  Wearing a ballerina bun pulls the hair back off the face opening to face up.  Part hair in the center or off to the side and smooth hair back into a low ponytail at the middle of the nape.  You could also opt to place the bun still low on the nape but off to the left or right side.  Use a hair smoothing boar bristle brush and a PK Pro light-holding hairspray www.pksalon.com that can be used both on wet or dry hair.  Smooth the PK Pro Ribbons www.pksalon.com to control hair and help add a bit of moisture and control.
Using the PK Pro Morroccan Oil Shampoo & Conditioners - P.K. Salon!  to blow dry hair smooth for control but staying pliable hair.  Then hair can be tweaked a bit if needed where a hard stiffening product cannot be reworked easily.  Apply the PK Pro light hair spray to the ponytail and brush smooth.  Twist ponytail in one direction and wind around ponytail and secure with a few hair pins.  Put on your hat and you are ready to go.  For a alternate look, try forming a braid instead of a bun!  Check out Gwen Stephanie wearing this look and Diane Krueger wearing this trend with a braid instead of a bun.
No matter what hat or hair style you are wearing hair always looks less than perfect when the hair comes off.  It is often flatter and can often have static.  To be able to do a quick repair job on your style, carry a PK Pro mini spray-on, resin-free hair refresher.

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND A PROSPEROUS 2012 FROM THE PAUL KENNETH SALON

Have you resolved to make 2012 a year of looking your best?  Whether you have decided to eat right, work out, follow a beauty regimen or simply feel better about yourself, the following are easy ways to look and feel your best throughout the new year.

1.  Getting manicures and pedicures is a great beauty pick-me-up.  You'll have pretty, polished fingers and toes plus your cuticles and skin will be in better condition.  Not to mention the pampering time you get to spend getting the services!  At Paul Kenneth Salon you get a complimentary manicure when you send back the customer service survey via email. Make sure we have your email so you can enjoy a complimentary manicure. Go to   Contact Info for P.K. Salon in Woburn, MA or email info@pksalon.com
Make your manicures and pedicures last longer:

  • Try the Shellac Gel Polish.  It gives a shiny, chip-free finish with zero dry time and lasts for up to two weeks (sometimes longer!).  Light colors are less obvious as they grow out, so this can be a good option for less maintenance.
  • Use a cuticle oil daily or every other day.  This helps keep your nails well-conditioned so they avoid chips, cracks, and splits.
  • Keep heels from getting rough and calloused with Bassu Oil, Solar Oil or Firma Derm Lotion (The alpha beta in this product gently exfoliates the skin, prolonging your pedicure results).
2.  Dry skin is a winter woe that few people can avoid.  It can have varying degrees of effects, but dry, itchy skin is never comfortable!
Avoid dry skin by following these simple steps:

  • Shower in warm, not hot, water.  Even though your house may be cold, cranking up the shower temperature will do more harm to your skin than is worth it from that hot, steamy shower.
  • Moisturize your skin frequently with a high-quality lotion, such as our Firma Derm.  Look for ingredients such as natural oils and
  • Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A) supports cellular renewal and the production of collagen to renew your skin.  Bonus: the better quality of product, the less you have to use AND the better it absorbs into your skin, saving you time!
3.  Feeling kinda dull?  It's been a long time since most of us have seen the sun and our skin is looking pale and pasty.  Resist the urge of visiting a tanning bed and use a sunless spray tan and support with self-tanner instead.  The risks of tanning beds are too numerous to make it worth that tan -- and sunless tanners have improved dramatically in the last few years.  The Paul Kenneth Salon has a range of tan options; from just a glow to added color if you are looking for a tropical tan look.
  • Tip: make sure your skin is well exfoliated before getting spray tan.  After spray tan (8-10) hours, it is important to moisturize with lotions that do not contain mineral oil.
  • Don't forget to wear gloves or wash hands immediately after applying to avoid discoloration to palms!
4.  Wash your makeup off completely every night.  Sure, we all know we're supposed to do this, but did you know that for every night you sleep with your makeup on...your skin can age the equivalent of up to 8 days?  That's worth making yourself do it!
  • Some facial cleansers, such as Hydro Cleanse, contain Panthenol is a stable form of pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5). It aids in moisture retention and promotes the regeneration of damaged skin.
5. Faking a good night's sleep is difficult to do, but with a few steps you can look well-rested even if you're exhausted.
  • Splash your face with cool water in the morning to reduce water retention and puffiness, then apply an eye cream with brightening properties, such as Eye Proté, stimulates circulation and smoothes fine lines for a more youthful, lifted appearance
  • Make sure you apply plenty of concealer to your under eye area -- it should be a few shades lighter than your skin to cover circles.
  • Go easy on the eye makeup, sticking with neutral shadows in cool tones, and finish with eyeliner and mascara on top lashes only.
6.  Get your hair done regularly.  How many of us have looked in the mirror, thought about scheduling a haircut or color, then waited an extra few weeks to actually do it?  Those extra weeks are spent struggling with your overgrown style and trying to hide regrowth that refuses to be camoflouged.  Make your life easier and ask your stylist (if he or she hasn't already told you) when you should be coming back to have your style refreshed.  Then, make your appointment as you're leaving the salon -- even if you end up having to change it closer to the date, at least you'll remember the approximate date when you should return.  Your hair will thank you, and so will your getting-ready routine, since you won't be fighting with a style that has lost its luster.

7.  Commit to feeling better about yourself.  Even if there are things you'd like to change about your appearance, focus on the positives first.  It's easier to change small things one at a time instead of looking at the big picture and wanting an entirely new appearance.  Chances are you have a few features that you like -- play them up and focus on them, while working to steadily improve the things you don't like.
