Paul Kenneth Salon...Big on Bangs!

Big on Bangs

The design team at Paul Kenneth Salon & Spa in Woburn, Massachusetts, is doing a bang-up job of creating short, straight cuts with lots of chic and flair. For this model’s look, short bangs slim the face and set off the central features, while the red tips add just enough up-to-the-minute color to liven up the style, as well as give it an unexpected finish.

Paul Kenneth Salon & Spa's TRENDSETTING BLONDE

Brighten up a lackluster silhouette and shade with an of-the-moment, spring-infused finish ---- with a right-now cut!

CUT: Define your fabulousness by allowing strands to fall into a precise, clean-cropped cut. “Short, hard lines leave long bangs to create texture,” explains the PK Design Team.
COLOR: A gloomy shade is given a fashion and color lift for the new season! “We double-processed the hair to a platinum blonde [shade] from the dull, light brown color,” says the team. The white-hot hue helps transition mane into warmer weather with its gentler, fresh appearance.
STYLE: Use a Denman brush to smooth and create shine in the hair while blow-drying. Make sure to use thermal protectant spray to protect your tresses from unwanted heat damage.

CHANGE UP Pump up the pastels with a soft hint of pink in the front of an otherwise platinum pixie. The sexy hue combined with wisping, frontward facing layers, adds movement to the cropped cut.

Paul Kenneth Salon & Spa Presents ROCK STAR STYLISTA

It’s Time To Blossom With A Fabulously Sexy New Look. Paul Kenneth (PK) Salon IN Woburn, MA, And Sophisticate’s Present Your Options….

ROCK STAR STYLISTA
Dazzle with this marvelous mane that is the definition of glam slam- agree?
CUT: Refresh and ravish the style scene with a transforming take on a modern cut! “We cut an asymmetrical bob from very long hair to give her a mature look,” explains the Paul Kenneth (PK) Design Team. The A-line, asymmetrical style is over exaggerated by the style’s chic sidepart and gradual movement.
COLOR: Dismal copper lengths are given a wake-up call thanks to a revitalizing hue and highlights! “The deep, rich chestnut brown honey highlights give the hair great dimension,” say the style pros, who add more honey shades around the face for a pretty shimmering effect. COLOR USED: Matrix SoColor professional haircolor.
STYLE: “Use a Denman brush while blow-drying, then finish with a round brush to create volume on top of the crown,” advises the style team. Using a Denman brush first gives the silhouette smoothness in preparation for the subtle body on top.

CHANGE UP For a fabulously feisty finish try switching up the texture and part of your mane! Here, sweeping curls swing down from a slight sidepart for a more casual, yet couture, style.

Paul Kenneth Salon & Spa creates a VIBRANT VIXON

VIBRANT VIXEN
Take a regular, unremarkable style and give it a blast of beauty with a powerful hue and hot layers! CUT: The PK Design Team combined a layered, graduated bob with strong, yet short, fringe to craft a flowing cut that hits all the right style notes. COLOR: Say goodbye to a boring brunette hue when it is transformed into an eye-catching fiery color of coppery red. The vibrant shade wakes up the cut and gives fair skinned complexions a blast of fierceness. COLOR USED: Matrix Gloss Sync professional haircolor. STYLE: “We used a Denman brush and medium round brush with a light moisturizing mousse to give her hair body and smoothness,” explains the PK hair pros. “The Denman brush is used at the start of the blow-dry before finishing with a round brush to create volume.”

CHANGE UP
Show off your style direction by playing with the placement and movement of your tresses. Allowing fringe to fall into a sleek finish while tousling lengths to add dimension can add versatility to a short snip.

FROM THE MASTER ARTISAN, PK'S UNIVERSE, "The Amazing, Life Changing, Dr. Lew Comes to Paul Kenneth Salon & Spa"

'Psy-Cosmetologist' is an excellent resource. Its insightful and thought provoking.  Dr. Lew is leading the way with his idea that 'Specializing' is the differential edge to create a successful future.  My staff is so excited to the next level with these creative concepts. A must read that will change your tomorrow.
Dr. Losoncy has been called 'The motivational psychologist for the beauty profession." In his three decades with Matrix he has inspired tens of thousands of hairdressers throughout the world by bringing motivation, encouragement, people skills, teamwork and excellence within a message of humor and optimism.  His energetic message reveals the deeper, human purpose of hairdressing.  Although Dr. Lew's mission is for the beauty profession, his 25 books have sold over a million copies. He is the co-author of "ON," with Matrix's GM Colin Walsh, and his more recent books include, "if it weren't for you, we could get along." "Salon Psychology," "Early poppers: the secrets of self-starters,"

"Having Dr. Lew come into The Paul kenneth Salon and Spa  has been life changing." says Kathryn Merritt

FROM THE MASTER ARTISAN, PK'S UNIVERSE, "To Ombré, or NOT to Ombré"

'Ombre'', The French termed hair trend,
is the hottest trend now! This look has been spotted on many A-list Celebrities…but is it right for you? This look is not for everyone..... Remember, trends come and go, so don’t think you need to jump on the bandwagon to be cool! This trend features darker more natural hues at the base with a gradual dyed lightening at the ends.

A Few Positives:
1) It has a grown out look to begin with, so maintenance can be stretched out past your average time frame (5-6 weeks).   2) You get that sun kissed, summery, beachy, look any season....creating fun dimension and movement at the stroke of the brush at anytime you want!

4 things to consider before taking the plunge into Ombré:

1) Consider your profession and lifestyle
Not every workplace is supportive to the funky, high contrast bold version of this trend.  A more subtle approach is your safest bet, with tones only being 1-3 levels apart.

2) Shades must compliment your skin tone and wardrobe choicesYou can choose 1-3 shade to create the Ombré effect, but the colors must work with your complexion, and not distract from your clothing.

3)The more creative the color choice…the more maintenance required to maintain vibrancy or depth of the color

4) Make sure you see an experienced professional.  An Ombre' can be beautiful, however an Ombre' gone wrong can be a disaster resulting in a bad look, more investment to fix and/or compromising the condition of the hair.

The Paul Kenneth Professionals are well trained to deliver beautiful, rich Ombre' techniques to all types of hair.  www.pksalon.com call or stop in for a quick, complimentary consultation.

FROM THE MASTER ARTISAN, PK'S UNIVERSE, Who Are The Experts "

From my firend, Patrick Mcivor......These days, anyone and everyone can pose as an expert, and they do. Do we want a 13-year-old blogger telling women how to use products because we, the actual experts, haven’t gotten around to posting content?  I have news for you, that’s what is happening now, and if you don’t take the time to utilize social networking to promote your business, that 13 year old will pull your business right out from under your feet.
Personalities/brands like Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton are also taking a piece of the pie – they recommend products and people buy them – and they are NOT experts in the beauty field, they pay people to do their hair and makeup! They pay us! It’s happening in other industries too – a book recommendation from Oprah a is more powerful than one from the New York Times – she’s not a trained expert, either is the 13 year old girl, but they know how to market themselves as experts and it’s time that the REAL experts make some noise.
Start with Facebook – create a salon page separate from your personal page because professional pages offer valuable analytics about who visited your page and how often.  Professional pages also don’t max out at 5,000 friends – something I found out the hard way.  Having to accumulate those 5,000 again takes time, so do it right the first time.
YouTube is the other way to offer tips and advices to the public. I advise salons to create their own channel, because on YouTube, the more videos you have, the easier you are to find. To increase traffic to your channel, include QR Codes on your retail products and advise clients to scan them with their smart phones to access expert info on how to use the products.
At the very least, utilize Twitter to share quick tips and ideas and let people know what’s going on in the salon and on the road.
Just because we’re hairdressers doesn’t mean we have to shy away from computers like we did in the 80’s. Have fun and take control of your social network. Hey, if a 13 year old can do it, so can we!

Another very powerful tool that my friend did not mention, Pinterest.  This tool allows followers to like several different looks as well as use it as a communication too to discribe for their own style to the hairdresser.

Remember, we are the professionals and it is our responsibility to advise our guests on beauty!

FROM THE MASTER ARTISAN, PK'S UNIVERSE, ''Holiday Hair Ideas Continued"

TRY BLUNT BANGS

This type of fringe can overhaul your look in an instant. Plus, it works with just about every hair type (except for curly hair). Just tell your stylist not to cut bangs too thick or they'll overwhelm your face. To style, comb wet bangs flat and blow-dry with a nozzle attachment pointing down, and use your fingers to pull the bangs straight. If you have very curly hair, use a small, round natural-bristle brush to pull them taut.

GET MESSY

There's something romantic about hair that looks as though it were just casually pinned up. To create the effect, run mousse through damp hair and let it air-dry before sweeping it up—this way, even if you pull your hair back tightly, it will look soft.

BULK UP
For the most natural-looking body, concentrate volume on the sides of hair instead of at the crown. Spritz volumizing spray on damp roots and comb it through hair, then blow-dry with a medium-size round brush, pulling the brush under the hair and out to the side

FROM THE MASTER ARTISAN, PK'S UNIVERSE, ''Holiday Hair Ideas Continued"

GO DEEP and DARING
A deep side part makes any style more sophisticated. To make a clean part, apply styling cream to damp hair and, using the pointed end of a rattail comb, draw a part that lines up just beyond the arch of your eyebrow. Blow-dry hair straight, then spritz all over with a bit of shine spray and smooth with your palms. Then twist hair on the top of your head and stick in chop sticks to secure for added affect.

CREATE ROMANTIC CURLS

Even straight hair can hold these curls. Prep damp hair with volumizer, and blow-dry with a round brush. Next, wrap sections of hair around a medium-barrel curling iron, stopping an inch or two from the roots. Place the curls randomly so they don't look like old-fashioned ringlets.

DO A SLICK TWIST

1. Run a few drops of shine serum through damp hair and blow it straight with a paddle brush.
2. Brush the hair straight back so it's slick against the scalp, then gather it into a low ponytail just above the nape.
3. Tie the ponytail with an elastic and wind it around the base to create a bun.
4. Tuck the ends underneath and hold them with bobby pins.
5. Stick a few more pins into the bun in various spots to secure it.

PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS
VS.
OVER THE COUNTER PRODUCTS (OTC PRODUCTS)

OTC PRODUCTS
  • Table salt is used as a filler to thicken shampoo and will strip the color from your hair as well as  damage the hair’s cuticle resulting in dry, drab, split, brittle or frizzy hair
  • Coal Tar is used to thicken shampoo, but is also used to remove rust from metal
  • Silicone (aka any chemical name that ends in the last four letters of C O N E)  is used as the conditioning agent which takes 14 days to be completely washed off your hair
  • Food coloring is used as the coloring ingredient
  • Petroleum and animal fats are used to give hair shine, which causes build-up
    • Build-up is responsible for weighing the hair down, breakage, the inability of hair to hold a curl and prevents color and perm solutions from penetrating the hair shaft
  • They don’t know the difference between hair color and unwanted foreign particles, such as dirt and oil

PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS FROM A PROFESSIONAL SALON
  • Concentrated so that only a small amount is needed
  • Made with the highest quality cleansing and conditioning agents
  • pH balanced, which protects your hair from the environment, prolonging the longevity of your hair color by slowing down the dye from escaping your hair
  • They have plenty of expert research behind them
  • Products are actually customized and don’t just claim it on the bottle
  • Will not cause build up or strip the hair of color and vital moisture
  • Many contain sunscreens specifically designed for hair
PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS FROM A DRUG STORE OR SUPERMARKET (DIVERSION)
  • Diversion is the process of products being sold outside of its authorized chain of distribution
  • The products maybe one of three things:
    1. Stolen- a breach in contracts between the manufacturer and wholesaler
    2. Old- professional products have a shelf life of 1 year
    3. Tampered with/ Counterfeit- ingredients may be diluted or substituted
Restrictions may apply.

Our Newest Stay Spray Product With Sunscreen

Introducing the last of our three new products... Paul Kenneth's Stay Spray!  This fast-drying hair spray provides a great formula for giving your hair that perfect finishing touch to give lasting hold all day long.  It's never sticky or heavy, so it won't weigh your hair down or take volume away from your style

The high-quality aerosol sprayer is clog-resistant and provides an even spray all over.  Most hairsprays contain water as an ingredient, which takes away from the hold power of the spray and can cause your style to look frizzy and unpolished -- Stay Spray contains no water, so you don't have to worry about that happening!  You can use it in short bursts to provide strong hold for volume or texture, or spray all over to secure long hair.  The formula is clean and easy to wash out, so you won't have to deal with it building up on your hair like some other hairsprays do.
Stay Spray is specially formulated to lock in volume, texture, and lift.  The formula is also humidity-resistant, which is important in Boston!  Even if you're out in a rainy or snowy day, Stay Spray will keep your style looking great.  It also includes a sunscreen component to protect your hair from the sun's powerful rays and help prevent your color from fading.  Like most of Paul Kenneth's products, Stay Spray contains no formaldehyde or petrochemicals, and is gluten-free.
